How to optimize your FiveM server to avoid lag

How to optimize your FiveM server for maximum fluidity

Lag is the primary enemy of immersion in GTA RP. A stuttering server means a community that leaves. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced administrator, optimization is not an option; it is a technical necessity to offer a quality experience.

1. Analyze your resources with the Resmon tool

Before deleting everything, you need to know what is consuming your resources. In-game, open the console (F8) and type resmon 1.

This tool displays the CPU consumption (in milliseconds) of each script. If a script exceeds 0.05ms at rest, it is time to inspect it. Prioritize optimizing scripts that run in loops (Wait(0)) and try to increase the delays when the action is not necessary.

2. Optimize your assets and mappings

Heavy files slow down texture loading and cause "holes in the map".

  • Vehicles: Avoid models whose .ytd files exceed 16 MB. Textures that are too heavy saturate the players' video memory (VRAM).
  • Mappings: Use optimized files and avoid overlapping too many props in the same place.
  • Streaming: Only load what is necessary. A server with 400 unused modded vehicles is a server that will crash.

3. Efficiently manage your database

A poorly configured database slows down every in-game action (inventory, purchases, saving).

  • Indexing: Ensure your SQL tables (especially users and owned_vehicles) are correctly indexed.
  • Queries: Avoid SQL queries inside fast loops. Prioritize saving at intervals or when the player disconnects.

4. Choose the right host

Raw power isn't everything; latency matters. For a French-speaking server, prioritize a host with servers located in Europe (France or Germany).

Check that your machine has a processor with a high clock frequency (Single-core performance), as FiveM and MariaDB depend heavily on the speed of a single core.

5. Clean up your "Leaked" scripts

It is the golden rule: avoid free scripts found on leak sites. They often contain backdoors, massive code errors, or obsolete functions that drain your performance. Prioritize official scripts from recognized creators on Tebex or open-source resources maintained on GitHub.

Conclusion

Optimizing a FiveM server requires rigor and regular testing. By monitoring your Resmon and limiting the weight of your streaming files, you ensure a stable gaming experience that will retain your players in the long term.
